投捕暗號比較單純，投捕兩人答成共適即可，主要由捕手出暗號投手選擇要不要即可。比較要防止的是跑壘員看到暗號，打者回頭偷看捕手暗號原則上沒用，除非打者完全清楚暗號，而且頭腦清晰過人，否則偷看暗號只會造成打擊的分心，一般偷看只是故意擾亂而已。

至於投捕暗號的方式，比手指最容易，上場前溝通好隨時可以改變，曾經有MLB 球隊利用望遠鏡在外野偷看然後破解打旗幟通知打者。
為了防止此種情況就發明出一種亂數表，就是像賓果遊戲的 7x7 的表格完全相同的一對，每局使用一組，各貼在投捕的手套上，只比第幾行第幾列就代表要投什麼球。
這樣投捕就很容易每局更換一組暗號也不用特別去記，不過此種方式太專業，並不多人使用。
