2013年VW以Polo R WRC進軍WRC（世界越野錦標賽），並在FIA的規定下必須量產2500輛的市售車對外販售。而早在2012年底時VW將就這輛Polo R WRC街道版公開發表，並開出33900歐元（約新台幣132萬元）的建議售價。可惜的是，目前僅在德國當地販售原廠並無表態是否提供剩餘配額給予其它地區。
